Program Description

Welcome to STRA Baseball & Softball!

Southampton Township Recreational Association (STRA) is an organization focused on providing an instructional sports program for children in our township.

Season Timing

Baseball and softball programs are open to children ages 4-15. The season typically runs from the end of March through Memorial Day, with 2-3 events per week (practices or games). Events take place between 5:30pm and sunset (as late as 8pm). 

Divisions:
We play as part of the South Jersey Softball League & Pinelands Baseball League.  Divisions and ages are determined by the league rules. 
T-ball: Tball is is co-ed and open to children ages 4-7 . Practices are held one night during the week and games are on Saturday mornings at the Municipal Field #1 (5 Retreat Rd., Southampton, NJ 08088). Games will be Saturdays at 11am on Fields 1&2. Coaches will provide scheduling information to their teams prior to the season start. 

Rookies: Open to boys ages 7-8 (baseball) and girls in 2nd & 3rd grades (softball). Practices will typically occur two weekday evenings beginning in mid March, weather permitting. Games begin in April and coaches will provide the game schedule and update practice schedules to their teams. 

Minors: Open to boys ages 9-10 (baseball) and girls in 4th & 5th grades (softball). Practices will typically occur two weekday evenings beginning in mid March, weather permitting. Games begin in April and coaches will provide the game schedule and update practice schedules to their teams. 

Majors: Open to boys ages 11-12 (baseball) and girls in grades 6-8 (softball). Practices will typically occur two weekday evenings beginning in mid March, weather permitting. Games begin in April and coaches will provide the game schedule and update practice schedules to their teams. 


Equipment
Your child will need a baseball/softball glove, a bat, a batting helmet, baseball/softball pants and cleats. Boys also need an athletic cup. Catcher’s gear is provided for each team. Each player will receive a shirt, hat and socks as part of their uniform.

STRA is a 100% volunteer run organization. Volunteer opportunities within the baseball and softball programs include:
  • Coaching
  • Assistant Coaching
  • Field Lining
  • Snacks
  • Team organization

Southampton Township Recreation Association Registration Policy
For each sport/season, registration will open 3 months before the anticipated season start date and close one month prior to the anticipated season start date.
Early Bird Registration: The first two weeks of the registration period will be deemed “Early Bird” and offered at a discounted price, typically $5 off the regular registration fee.
Registration: The regular registration period will remain open until 1 month before the anticipated start date at the regular fees. Uniforms will be ordered at the close of this registration period. Late registrations will be accepted subject to team size and a late fee will apply. No registrations will be accepted once games have been started.
